Williams County Fair goes by the Ohio State 4-H Rules & Regulations

Release date & time: The release date for each species will be determined by the Livestock Committee.  The load out times are 6:00- 9:00 a.m. or  9:00 p.m.-12 a.m.  Check your barn for the release date. 

Pedestrian safety must be observed at all times.

Rules:

  1. Exhibitors must have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection within 30 days of the fair.  No health papers will be written at the gate.
  2. Shots are 4- way vaccine required. All equine that will be exhibited at the Williams County Fair must be vaccinated for Eastern and Western Encephalitis, Influenza and Tetanus. All exhibitors must sign and turn in required vaccination form stating that the vaccines were administered to the equine by the first Thursday in June (official Williams County Horse and Pony measurement date).
  3. If equine ID forms and vaccination forms are not turned in by specified dates the named equine is ineligible for Ohio State Fair (PAS) and the Williams County Fair.
  4. Exhibitor must have Equine Identification Form on file by June 1, with the OSU Extension, Williams County office.
  5. All exhibitors shall abide by the Junior Fair Rules and Regulations regarding tampering and/or misrepresentation, fitting and showing.
  6. All animals must be exercised daily for better animal health.
  7. Jan. 1 of current year will be used in determining age class of members.
  8. A member may exhibit two horses or ponies and one single harness horse, in addition to the production class animals.
  9. Class entries are limited to 7 entries per equine plus showmanship.  Premium to be paid on the top four grades per animal. Each exhibitor may only enter one horse/pony per class. One horse, one rider- no animal sharing.
  10. Showmanship is required for all participants.  If showmanship is not entered or is scratched at a later date, that individual will not participate in any classes.
  11. Contesting (speed) events will be divided into Jr. & Sr. classes.  Jr. will be youth 8-13 years of age and Sr. will consist of youth 14-18 years of age (as of Jan. 1 of current year).
  12. All equine must be measured on the official county horse measuring date if the animal is 5 years old and younger or has never received an official height measurement for the Williams County Fair. The exception is that if an equine measures 58 inches or above anytime before age 5, a measurement is not required. All measurements are final.
  13. Production animals are not required to be measured, but can only show in production class.
  14. One (1) stall per exhibitor with the exception of 1.) an exhibitor that also shows a draft animal, and/or 2.) a mare and unweaned foal.   Additional animals will be hauled in on day of show.
  15. Animals must be stabled in facilities provided by the Fairboard. Mares with foals, mares in foal, weanlings, yearlings will have first choice of box stalls.
  16. Draft Horses will be stalled in the Draft Horse Barn.
  17. Senior Showmanship 15-18, Intermediate Showmanship 12-14, Junior Showmanship 8-11, First Year Showmanship 8-18 as of Jan. 1 of current year. All exhibitors are to participate in a showmanship class with at least one animal, other than production. Showmanship is required for all participants.
  18. First Year members can enter First Year Showmanship and either go First Year Walk and Trot or the canter and contesting classes. No entries added to classes after entry forms are recorded.
  19. Aged horse or pony must be foaled before July, two years ago.
  20. If less than three in a class, projects will be graded at the Judge's discretion. Judge may question exhibitors about animals, equipment, etc.
  21. Uniform Rules for 4-H Horse Shows, except grouping of classes, will be the official guidelines.
  22. No writing, farm name, advertising or 4-H or FFA logos allowed on clothing.
  23. In order to be judged Champion or Reserve Champion, an exhibit must have received an A grade according to excellence.
  24. When a member exhibits at the County Fair, the horse must stay for the entire fair, or forfeit all trophies and premiums. Exception being that a medical release must be signed by the fair veterinarian and the Senior Fairboard Superintendent. Mares with foals have the option of taking project home after show.
  25. Aisles and stalls are to be kept clean throughout the fair. Stalls must be cleaned upon departure of the animal. If stall areas are not clean, exhibitor will forfeit premium.
  26. When the winner of the Draft Horse Showmanship is age 15-18. An Overall Sr. Showmanship winner will be selected by the judge to represent the horse department in the Showmanship Sweepstakes.
  27. All equine exhibitors must attend a minimum of one Williams County Quality Assurance Horse Clinic to be eligible to participate at the Williams County Fair. Also all required films, forms, etc.. must be completed.
  28. No pad locks on stalls
  29. Each production horse can only show in production class. Production forms must be on file in the OSU Extension Office by June 1, of the current year.
  30. Once an animal has left the fairgrounds, it will not be permitted back onto the grounds.
