Beef Rules (Refer to Junior Fair General Rules regarding Quality Assurance)
1.
Exhibitors must have a
Certificate of Veterinary Inspection within 30 days of the fair and present DUNF
form at fair. There will be no
health papers written at the gate.
2.
All exhibitors shall abide
by the Junior Fair Rules and Regulations regarding tampering and/or
misrepresentation, showing & fitting.
3.
All animals must be
exercised daily for better animal health. All animals must be halter broken to
lead and double tied with neck strap and halter.
4.
If an animal designated
for the Jr. Fair Sale dies during the fair, the exhibitor cannot participate in
the Jr. Fair Sale. Exhibitors will
still receive premiums earned.
5.
Once an animal leaves the
fairgrounds, it will not be allowed back on.
6.
All Market Steers must be
in the care of the member by January 1 and ear tagged by the Senior Fairboard on
specified dates before January 15.
7.
Members may exhibit two
market steers. Steers must be shown to be sold in the sale.
Each exhibitor is allowed to sell only one (1) animal at the Jr. Fair
Sale.
8.
The steer used in the
Dairy Steer Project must be 100 percent dairy.
9.
Animals must be dehorned
(no horns on Bovine).
10.
Market steers must be
castrated and healed by January tagging date.
11.
Steers must be a minimum
of 950 pounds to be sold in the Junior Fair Sale. Steers underweight may be
shown for showmanship only. All animals go through the scales once. No
re-weighs.
12.
Market Class will show by
weight classes.
13.
Exhibitors are eligible to
participate in Beef Showmanship according to the showmanship rules.
14.
Aisles and stalls are to
be kept clean throughout the fair. After the sale, manure is to be removed from
the stalls. If stall areas are not clean, exhibitor will forfeit premium.

Beef Age
Classification

A Spring Calf must have
been calved March 1 and after of current year.
·
A Junior Calf must have
been calved between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28 of current year.
·
A Winter Calf must have
been calved between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31, last year.
·
A Senior Calf must have
been calved between Sept. 1 and Oct. 31, last year.
·
A Late Summer Calf must
have been calved between July 1 and Aug. 31, last year.
·
An Early Summer Calf must
have been calved between May 1 and June 30, last year.
·
A Spring Yearling must
have been calved between March 1 and April 30, last year.
·
A Junior Yearling must
have been calved between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28, last year.
·
A Senior Yearling must
have been calved between Sept. 1 and Dec. 31, 2 years ago.
·
A Two Year Old must have
been calved between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31, two years ago.
·
An Aged Cow, born prior to
Jan. 1, two years ago, with calf born within past 12 months.
Beef and Dairy
Feeder Calf Rules
1.
Exhibitors must have a
Certificate of Veterinary Inspection within 30 days of the fair. All feeder
calves are required to be wormed and vaccinated for BVD, IBR, PI3,
BRSV, PH (Pasteurella Hemolytica), by August 15.
Certificate of vaccination must be turned in along with DUNF and
Certificate of Veterinary Inspection when animals arrive at the fair.
2.
All exhibitors shall abide

All animals must be
exercised daily for better animal health. All animals must be halter broken to
lead and double tied with neck strap and halter.

Exhibitors are to have
calf in possession by June 1 of current year and tagged by the specified date.
5.
Dairy Feeder Steer Calves
must be 100 percent dairy. Beef Feeder Calves may be purebred or crossbred.
6.
Beef Heifer Feeder Calves
cannot be exhibited in breeding classes.
7.
Exhibitors may show a
maximum of two animals per class at the county fair.
8.
Male feeder calves must be
castrated and healed by fair.
According to the Ohio Code of Ethics, it is unacceptable to castrate cattle over
8 months of age.
9.
All animals must be
dehorned (no horns on bovine).
10.
Feeder calves will be
uniformly divided into weight classes for show after weigh-in. All animals go
through the scales once, no re-weighs.
11.
All Animals are to weigh
300 to 650 pounds to be eligible for type. All animals not eligible to show for
type will be graded separately to complete project.
12.
Feeder calves weighing 300
pounds to 650 pounds may sell at the Williams County Junior Fair Sale. Feeder
calves MUST BE SHOWN FOR TYPE in order to be sold in Junior Fair Sale.
13.
Exhibitors are eligible to
participate in Beef Showmanship.
