Send in your entries early and avoid the lines and time waiting.

Rules:

  1. Exhibits will be accepted Friday Sep 5  8:00 am to 8:00 pm and until noon, Sep 6 when all exhibits MUST be in place.
  2. Judging will be on Saturday, Sep 6 at 1pm if judges are available.
  3. Each entry can be listed in one category only.
  4. Exhibits in this department are open to all counties and states with fairs that are open to Williams County.
  5. Entries are free except where the total of premiums in exhibits entered equals $10 or more. The Exhibitor then is required to purchase an Exhibitor’s Ticket.
  6. All entries will be judged on table quality.
  7. All entries must have been canned in current season.
  8. Standard pints and quart jars and standard jelly glasses must be used. Any other jars will be disqualified.
  9. Vegetables and other entries will be judged by one Judge system, and are open to the public.
  10. Display exhibits cannot be entered for single exhibits.
  11. Exhibitors are limited to two entries per premium.
  12. Exhibitors shall correctly name, on ticket, the entry as to variety.
  13. Premiums will be paid immediately following the far.
  14. Exhibits will be released from 9am until 12pm on Sep 14, 2008.
  15. All exhibits MUST be removed. If not removed by 12 noon, exhibits will be disposed of.

Jarden Home Brands makers of Ball ® and Kerr® FreshPreserving Products is proud to recognize today’s fresh preserving (canning) enthusiasts, so First and Second Place Awards will be given to those individuals judged as the best in designated recipe categories.

A panel of judges will select the two best entries submitted by an adult for Fruit, Vegetable, Pickle, and Soft Spread categories. Entries must be preserved in Ball® or Ball® Collection Elite® Jars sealed with Ball® Lids and Bands or Ball® Collection Elite® Lids and Bands, or preserved in Kerr® Jars sealed with Kerr® Lids and Bands or Ball® Collection Elite® Lids and Bands. In addition, soft spread entries will be limited to recipes prepared using Ball® Pectin: Original, No Sugar Needed or Liquid. A proof of purchase for Ball® pectin must be provided at time of entry.

Entries designated First Place from each category will receive the following:

• Two (2) Five-Dollar ($5.00) Coupons for Ball® or Kerr® FreshPreserving Products and one (1) Three-Dollar

($3.00) Coupon for Ball® Simple Creations® Products.

Entries designated Second Place from each category will receive the following:

• Two (2) Five-Dollar ($5.00) Coupons for Ball® or Kerr® FreshPreservingProducts.

 Youth Level:

In recognition of youth who excel in the art of fresh preserving (canning), Jarden Home Brands makers of Ball and Kerr Fresh Preserving Products will present first place awards in designated recipe categories.


A panel of judges will select the best entry submitted by a youth in each category for Fruit, Vegetable, Pickle and Soft Spread.  They will receive (1) $5 Coupon for Ball or Kerr Fresh Preserving Products, (1) $3 coupon for Ball Pectin Products. Entries must be preserved in Ball or Ball collection Elite jars sealed with Ball Lids and Bands or Ball Collection Elite Lids and Bands or preserved in Kerr Jars sealed with Kerr Lids and Bands or Ball Collection Elite Lids and Bands.  In addition, soft spread entries will be limited to recipes prepared using Ball Pectin:  Original, No sugar needed or liquid.  A proof of purchase for Ball Pectin must be provided at time of entry

JUDGING GUIDELINES:

  1. All eligible entries must be canned using the same brand of jar and lid: Ball Home Canning Jars sealed with Ball Two-Piece Vacuum Caps or Kerr Home Canning Jars sealed with Kerr Two-Piece Vacuum Caps. The only exception is Ball Collection Elite lids may be used on either Ball or Kerr brand jars.
  2. Entries in the general soft spread categories and Best of Category: Soft Spreads must be prepared using one of the Ball Fruit Jell Pectins: powder, no sugar needed or liquid. The UPC from the Fruit Jell packaging must accompany the entry as proof of purchase.
  3. When a jar is sealed with a Ball Two-Piece Vacuum Cap, the manufacturing date on the lid should not be used to determine the age of the product. Ball brand lids may be used after the year of production. Lids of current year production may not be available in all stores, making it necessary for participants to use lids produced prior to 2008.
  4. Entries must be labeled with product name, date of preparation, processing method and processing time.
  5. All home-canned foods must have been prepared within a one-year period prior to judging date.
